SERVICE HOURS
8th Graders are required to complete 20 hours of service in order to graduate. Students are to fill out a service log and keep it with them to be turned in at the end of the year on the day of their religion final. Opportunities for service will be through the school, parish, and community.
Some ideas for service include:
campus clean up
altar serving
cantoring
Little Church
babysitting
Halloween Trunk or Treat
work Santa's breakfast
tutoring
More to come soon!!!!!
There is an opportunity for our 8th graders to help out with Little Church. We will be meeting next week to formulate our plan for the coming year. After that meeting, I can provide you with details as to when Little Church will begin and what kind of things 8th graders can help us with during the Liturgy of the Word for Children (LOWC). Last year, we worked with the youth of our parish during the second and fourth Sunday, 10:30 Mass. Hopefully many of our students will take advantage of this opportunity.
1. When Father calls the children to the altar that Sunday, students can walk up and help us take the children to the Ruddy Center. They will help us keep an eye on them as we read the Readings and proclaim the Gospel. When we are finished, they will help us lead the children back into the church and make sure that each child makes it to their parents. They will earn a service hour.
2. If they would like to earn three service hours, they need to contact me by Friday before the second Sunday. Students will arrive at the Ruddy Center by 9:45 and help set up the rooms and arrange chairs. They will help us with the children, bringing them to the Ruddy Center and returning them to sit with their parents. After Mass, they will return to the Ruddy Center and help clean up and put things away. Please feel free to give out my (Mrs. Nakano) contact info: 562-857-2902, [email protected].
We are very excited to have 8th graders help us!
